According to Yahoo Sports insider Adrian Wojnarowski, the Atlanta Hawks are very close to signing current Maine Red Claws guard Mario West. West is no stranger to the Hawks organization as he played 117 games in two seasons with the Hawks from 2007-2009. West started in five of these games, and averaged 0.9 points per game.
West was cut by the team after the 2009 training camp and later joined the Maine Red Claws for their inaugural season in Portland, Maine. In 11 games with the Red Claws, West averaged 13.7 points and 4.1 assist per game. From two first hand experiences of seeing West play I can say I am not surprised to see him back in the NBA. After the first game against the Iowa Energy and his monstrous dunk over Taylor Griffin I was convinced this guy had what it takes to be an NBA player.
It will be very tough for the Red Claws to make up for the loss of West as he was one of the most productive players on the court. Who knows if things don’t work out in his ten days in Atlanta we could see him back in Portland, but for now he will be living the dream with the Atlanta Hawks.
