On a night that started with the Celtics making their first 12 out of 13 shots, yet only lead by 2, the C’s stuck it out in the second half on defense to come out with a 116-103 victory. When the game started, it appeared as though the final score would be around 140-130 or such. The defense picked up continuously as the game continued, and the Celtics really picked it up in the third quarter.
The C’s were down at the half by 1, but outscored the Raptors 33-17 in the 3rd. This was led by their ability to play help defense, something that has been missing in the previous few weeks. We have seen it in spurts, but the Celtics put it together for an entire quarter of play. The whole team pitched in on the effort in the 3rd on the scoring effort. Pierce got to the rim, Sheed his his threes, Rondo was doing his job, and even Perkins was working down in the paint.
Although the Celtics were outscored by 2 in the fourth (31-29) a large part of this was due to the starters sitting on the bench getting rest before the upcoming road games. Unlike we have grown to expect, the Celtics grabbed a big lead, and never let it slip. Once they began looking dominant, but were only up by 6, they continued the charge until we were up by 15.
As a whole, the performance tonight was impressive. Ray Allen regained his stroke and finished the game with 20 points and 3-4 shooting from behind the arc. Sheed as well had a great performance as he as well found it from 3 point territory, but mixed it up with some work in the post. KG played well, Rondo, Perk, Eddie, you name it. I, as well as every Celtics fan, should feel very confident with the team going into their 4 straight road games. The team proved tonight, that they have regained some of their long lost swagger. I am glad to see it back. It makes watching games much less painful.
